Entry & Experimental Calibration • The Foundational 1:1 Cuboid Portals of Forde Art.
In the Chromatic Seasons cosmology, Season I: Portal represents the primary doctrine of Entry and Singularity. Where 20th-century Color Field pioneers — Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman — enveloped the viewer in atmospheric reflected pigments, Jonathan Robert Forde executes each portal on the Additive Plane using pure emitted photons.
These works serve as the foundational experimental calibration testing the vibrational qualities of short electromagnetic waves. Calibrated from the high-contrast turquoise, solar yellow, and cadmium red light of the Baignoire de Joséphine in Martinique, each 1:1 Cuboid Portal tests the tension between strict Barbadian geometric discipline and boundless Creole saturation — creating an optical threshold where color ceases to be a flat surface and opens into an irreversible passageway.
